CEREDIGION RUGBY CHAMPIONS!

Huge congratulations to the school's rugby team on their success in this year's Urdd County Rugby tournament.

The school managed to go through to the final stages, followed by a very close final match with the team managing to score a last-minute try to win the tournament.

Best of luck to them in the national finals.

TASTING STATION FOR HEALTHY EATING

The School would like to thank Mrs Hefina Ellis our Head Cook and Jill Jones from Ceredigion Catering Services for preparing some very interesting tasters during the open evening.

The curry was delicious and the cakes and pizzas were very popular.

THANKSGIVING ASSEMBLY WITH EIFION ROBERTS

Many thanks to the Reverend Eifion Roberts for his company and his message at our Thanksgiving Assembly this morning.

We had a slightly different whole school assembly with a strong emphasis on being thankful for the harvest. Year 6 pupils shared a message with the rest of the school to begin, before Mr Eifion Roberts addressed us with his message.

We look forward to welcoming Mr Eifion Roberts the school again in the future.

HOCKEY COACHING WITH THE URDD

Year 6 pupils had an opportunity to refine their netball playing skills this week when coaches from the Urdd came to share their expertise with us.

Thank you especially to Helen and Lowri for their company during the afternoon, and for teaching various rules and new skills to the children.

We look forward to welcoming them back next term.

COLLECTING 'bag2school' BAGS ON BEHALF OF THE PTA

Year 6 pupils help load the van with bags that were contributed by parents of the school. Thank you all for your contributions - the clothes, shoes etc are now being sent to the company and the school will receive £500 for every tonne collected.

YEAR 6 VISIT THE NATIONAL LIBRARY

Today both Year 6 classes visitied the National Library to learn more about this term's theme 'Our Square Mile'.

The National Library was full of information. We looked at old maps of Wales and Aberystwyth in particular, as well as seeing old photographs of our local area which dated back around a century and a half! The tour of the Library was also fun, especially the special shelves which weith five tonnes and can be moved by turning a wheel with one hand! Wow!

NATIONAL T.LLEW JONES DAY- BETHAN GWANAS VISITS

On Friday October 11th – T.Llew Jones Day – Year 6 pupils were fortunate enough to be visited by the author Bethan Gwanas, the recent winner of the T.Llew Jones Memorial Prize. They thoroughly enjoyed hearing Bethan read extracts from the first chapters of her forthcoming novel based on the history of The Welsh Brigands of Mawddwy, before attempting to design their own covers for the novel. The pupils benefited greatly from a very enjoyable morning – thank you very much to the Welsh Books Council for arranging the visit and to Bethan Gwanas for holding such a fun-packed and interesting workshop which inspired the pupils’ imagination.

Congratulations to all who competed in the Cross Country races held at Blaendolau Fields this year.

Over 100 pupils from the school took part, with many successful runners.

The first ten runners from each race will now go on to compete in the Urdd County Cross Country races held in May of next year, leaving plenty of time to train!

HANNAH IS WELSH ORIENTEERING CHAMPION!

Congratulations to Hannah of Year 5 on winning a competition held over the weekend to decide the Welsh National Orienteering Champion!

Hannah won her category (under 10yrs) whilst competing in Anglesey.

She had to dash around a forest using her fantastic map reading skills in order to succeed.

Well done Hannah on your fantastic achievement.

THE 'PIN MEWN PAPUR' COMMITTEE

A Group of pupils from years 5 and 6 have been working hard to try and improve the presentation of the school’s main entrance.

Representatives from the committee have been e-mailing Newmans Garden Centre on the Waun.

The School would like to thank Newmans for their positive response and for contributing plants at a reduced cost.

INTERNATIONAL DAY 2013

Our International Day was held on October 4th this year to celebrate the cultures and traditions of various countries of the World.
Every year group studied a different country, with the children wearing their country's traditional costume - India, Argentina, France, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Scotland and of course, Wales.
Many thanks to all who made such an effort to make today a success - to the children for wearing such dazzling outfits, to the staff for organising interesting activities, to the PTA for their continued support, to Penweddig School pupils for their activities in the school hall, to various local businesses for supplying food, and to the pupils' parents and families for their company during the afternoon.

FILMING DECHRAU CANU DECHRAU CANMOL

With it being only the beginning of October, it was quite strange to see a decorated Christmas tree and a choir of children wearing scarves and woolly hats at Llanbadarn Church last night.

What was going on?

Well they were filming for Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol of course! We look forward to seeing the programme in December.

SUCCESS IN SWIMMING

Congratulations to the six pupils pictured on their fanastic success in swimming over the weekend.
