WELSH COUNCIL'S BOOKS QUIZ

Many congratulations to the pupils who represented the school in this year's books Quiz Final.

There were two halves to the quiz where the children had to discuss a book as well as give a presentation on another. In this final round the discussion group managed to win the competition, with the school coming third overall when combining both discussion and presentation points.

In the photograph opposite are members of the discussion group with Miss Llwyd, Siwan Heledd, Beca, Siwan Fflur and Eluned, and below is a photograph of the presentation group in their WWII costumes: Marry, Imogen, Siwan Fflur, Elinor, Siwan Heledd, Beca, Evan and Eluned. Anest was also a member of both groups but unfortunately had to pull out due to illness.

Many thanks to the Welsh Books Council for holding an event which gave the pupils so much enjoyment when preparing by reading and discussing various books. It was also great to meet the artist Jac Jones - many thanks to him for an interestin insight into his work as an artist and author.

YEAR 2 TRIP

In the morning, we travelled to The Kite Centre in Tregaron. We were very excited and looking forward to seeing the old school classroom. The girls put on white pinafores and we all sat on long benches behind wooden desks. We had to speak English in the classroom. If we spoke Welsh, we had to wear the ‘Welsh Not’ around our neck. We did some sums and recited the 2 times table using an abacus. The teacher wrote English words on the blackboard with chalk. Before we answered a question, we had to say ‘Please Sir..’ We had the opportunity to write on slate with chalk and also wrote on paper with a pen and ink. We practised singing Doh-Re-Mi and we had a quiz. After working hard we had a drink and a Welsh cake before buying a gift in the shop. We left Tregaron and travelled on the bus to Bwlch Nant yr Arian. After eating our dinner we played in the park and then we walked around the lake, following a map, reading clues and looking for wooden animals. We had a great day!

PINK DAY IN MEMORY OF ANGHARAD MAIR WILLIAMS

Click here to view the whole collection (80 photos)

The School Council organised a Pink Day today in memory of ex-pupil Angharad Mair Williams who sadly passed away last November aged 14 years old. Angharad loved the colour pink, so what better colour for everyone to wear than pink to remember her? Many thanks to all who donated £1 for wearing pink - the money will be donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, with staff members, friends of the school and members of Angharad's family cycling to London in August.

THE CHICKS HAVE FLOWN THE NEST

Last Thursday morning after nearly four weeks our little chicks flew the nest. It was a very happy moment to see them finally grow big and strong enough to leave the nest but very sad at the same time. Both adults had been extremely busy over the past few weeks, searching for food and making sure the chicks were kept warm, we wish them all the best and hope that they are thriving in their new home.

Click here to watch the last video of the chicks before they flew the nest
